Tristan Tzara

Tristan Tzara was a   band from Dortmund, Germany. Their name is taken from founding dadaist Samy Rosenstock who used “Tristan Tzara” as his pseudonym. They recorded two full lengths before their ending in the year 2002, and here they are. Really awesome classic screamo. Get into it.

WHAT SCREAMO IS SUPPOSED TO BE

Clikatat Ikatowi

Clikatat Ikatowi was one of San Diego’s most celebrated bands. They helped maintain the city as the art punk capital of world. They created twisted yet naturally flowing works in a broad range of styles. Ranging from lightning fast and huge, to stripped down, spacey, and lethargic, Clikatat’s songs were always engaging and mesmerizing. It wasn’t just their excellent compositions which made them everyone’s favorite band but also their superior musicianship. Just recently discovered these guys and I can't stop listening. If your into Antioch Arrow kinda stuff check these guys out now.

Lsd and the Search for God

LSD and the Search for God is a shoegaze/noise-rock band from San Francisco, California formed in 2006. They have sadly released only one self titled EP. Really really good new shoegaze. Hopefully these guys will be putting some new stuff out one of these days. To be honest I'm not even sure if they still play, but either way, make sure to get this amazing EP

TUNE IN, DROP OUT

Cobra Kai

Cobra Kai was a six piece screamo/punk band from Cincinnati, OH. Can't find much more info on these guys, but I will say that these guys rule at what they do. Below is a link to their discography. Screamo with synth, try it out, it may be an acquired taste, but there really different and really good.

DIG IT

At The Drive-In

At the Drive-In were a  band, from El Paso, TX, USA. They formed in 1993 & disbanded in 2001. Influenced primarily by the likes of Fugazi & Drive Like Jehu, as well as the Texan  scene. At the Drive-In crafted epic, eclectic songs, laced with cryptic & strongly metaphorical lyrics. One of the greatest bands of all time. After At the Drive-In members went on to create The Mars Volta, another amazing band. One of my all time favorite bands, such awesome and original music, if you haven't heard these guys yet, do yourself a favor and get everything posted.

Heiruspecs

Not many bands lock into their sound in high school or manage to hang together for seven years, but Heiruspecs has and now the young 20-somethings are seasoned vets. With more than 100,000 revolutions on the band’s odometer from a touring schedule that keeps them on the road 150 days a year, Heiruspecs has steadily broken down preconceived notions of live hip-hop by refusing to regurgitate the same old sounds you’ve heard before, and knock you upside the head with their impressive array of  and hard-hitting beats. And the band doesn’t cop samples to get to where they want to take you, instead opting to deliver it all live, all original. Awesome hip hop, get on this shit now.

AHH YAA

Tender Buttons

Tender Buttons Named after a Gertrude Stein book of experimental prose is made up of K8 and Zach from Kill Me Tomorrow. Below is a link to their full length album called Hot Abductions. "Their sinister take on electronic dance music harkens back to the late 1980s/early '90s, an era when electronic music was still underground and pulsed with a lurid carnality and industrial flavor. Hot Abductions achieves a similar effect and comes off as the soundtrack to a decadent night out in Southern California. The band cleverly undercuts the album's darker currents with splashy electro-clash riffs that toy with synth pop but never lose their aggro core. " Get this album, put on some good headphones, pull out a pen and paper and start writing and drawing what ever strange shit comes to your mind, that's what I do at least.

The Black Angels

The Black Angels are a  band from Austin, Texas, formed in May 2004. Their name derives from the Velvet Underground song “ The Black Angel’s Death Song." This band is really awesome, sometimes you can get a Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators kinda vibe from these guys. Sit back and dig these record. It'll be hard not to.

Slug ( Atmosphere )

Minnesota  group, formed around 1994. At its creation, the group was called “Urban Atmosphere”. Unlike many hip hop groups, Atmosphere provides its own live instrumentation, usually consisting of bass guitar and drums.Atmosphere originally consisted of Spawn (MC), ANT (producer) and Slug (DJ at the time). After Spawn left the group (now rapping under the name Rek The Heavyweight) the line up was set, with Slug, ANT and a rotating DJ. Currently the group consists of rapper Slug (Sean Daley), producer Ant (Anthony Davis), and Touring DJ Mr. Dibbs (Brad Forste). Slug is also one of the co-founders of a Minneapolis hip hop label called Rhymesayers Entertainment. Amazing hip hop music. Everyone loves this guy, but maybe you haven't heard him, if not get all of this shit.

THE JAM

Purple Mercy

So here we have Purple Mercy, still an active band I believe. I can't find any info on this band, but I'm pretty sure they're from Santa Cruz, CA. Purple Mercy play psychedelic punk / hardcore / sludge music. The first time I listened to this album was on shrooms. The trip was horrible, but the album sounded great. Check these guys out I'm pretty sure someone from Sabertooth Zombie is in this band, but they sound nothing like them.

STONER SLUDGE

A Silver Mt. Zion

Silver Mt. Zion (Thee Silver Mt. Zion, A Silver Mt. Zion or simply SMZ) use a number of different variations of the name on different releases. A Silver Mt. Zion is a band formed in 1999, in Montreal, Quebec, by Godspeed You! Black Emperormusicians Efrim MenuckSophie Trudeau and Thierry Amar. According to an interview with VPRO Radio in The Netherlands, originally the project was for Efrim to learn how to score music, but the idea was soon abandoned as Efrim decided that he preferred music not to be defined by rules, preferring simply what sounds best. Despite this, he continued the project out of a desire to experiment with ideas that would not work within the context of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Truly beautiful music, don't pass this one up.

ENJOY

Gang of Four

Gang of Four were a British  group from Leeds, England. Original personnel were singer Jon King, guitarist Andy Gill, bass guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham. They were fully active from 1977 to 1984, and then re-emerged twice in the 1990s with King and Gill. In 2005, the original lineup reunited. Gang of Four play very awesome post punk new wave jams with a sound like no one else. Give these guys a listen.

AWESOME

Nikad

Nikad from my homeland of Croatia is by far the best band you’ve never heard of. I’m serious, if this band was American you’d all be collecting their records, wearing their shirts and telling each other how cool you are for doing so. Say you like Orchid, Yaphet Kotto, Yage and Pg. 99, you’ll lap this up like mother’s milk. But all the sad cliches aside, it’s not often that you come across a group of people who are so incredibly nice and who play such inspired, frantic and fucked up hardcore. Cherish and behold.

Biggest album cover I could find :(

Black Moon

Black Moon (Brothers who Lyrically Act and Combine Kickin Music Out On Nations) is a Hip Hop group from Brooklyn, New York which debuted in 1992. Kings of the underground. Some real good hip hop. Get this.

XFilesX

Straight-Edge hardcore from New Bedford, MA. The band formed in 2000 as a “joke band." Edson DaSilva, Matt Vaughan and Brendan Radigan began playing fast hardcore songs with an aim to sound similar to CHARLES BRONSON and MK ULTRA. Soon bassist Trevor Vaughan joined and the line up was solidified for the bands entire existence. Until 2003 the band recorded, played extensively in the northeast and completed one full tour of the U.S. I'm not really into "straight-edge hardcore," but XFilesX just rules. If you love fastcore, you'll love XFilesX.
