SO GOOD

The Now

The Now was a screamo band from NJ/PA. The band had one sole release, which was a self-titled EP comprised of 6 songs spanning 11 minutes. It was originally released on Robotic Empire. The band was comprised of ex, and current members of Hot Cross, A Life Once Lost, Welcome The Plague Year, Neil Perry, Joshua Fit For Battle, etc. So, if you know those bands, you’ll know what to expect from them. Awesome band, if you haven't heard these guys get this asap!

JAM

Joshua Fit For Battle

Joshua Fit For Battle was a prominent hardcore band based out of Newark, Delaware. Despite Joshua Fit For Battle’s effort to avoid categorization, both fans and critics often consider the band a product of the emotional hardcore uprise during the late 1990’s. Joshua Fit For Battle’s career spanned from 1998 to 2005, until the group disbanded. The band’s releases are still distributed by distinguished hardcore label Level Plane. Amazing band, if you haven't heard these guys yet, don't pass them up.

AWESOME

Tristan Tzara

Tristan Tzara was a screamo / hardcore band from Dortmund, Germany. Their name is taken from founding dadaist Samy Rosenstock who used “Tristan Tzara” as his pseudonym. They recorded two full lengths before their ending in the year 2002, and here they are. Really awesome classic screamo. Get into it.

WHAT SCREAMO IS SUPPOSED TO BE

Cobra Kai

Cobra Kai was a six piece screamo/punk band from Cincinnati, OH. Can't find much more info on these guys, but I will say that these guys rule at what they do. Below is a link to their discography. Screamo with synth, try it out, it may be an acquired taste, but there really different and really good.

Cowboys Became Folk Heroes

Cowboys Became Folk Heroes was a screamo band originally from Lakeland, Fl. This is an amazing completely underrated and fairly unknown screamo band. AWESOME SONG

Nikad

Nikad from my homeland of Croatia is by far the best band you’ve never heard of. I’m serious, if this band was American you’d all be collecting their records, wearing their shirts and telling each other how cool you are for doing so. Say you like Orchid, Yaphet Kotto, Yage and Pg. 99, you’ll lap this up like mother’s milk. But all the sad cliches aside, it’s not often that you come across a group of people who are so incredibly nice and who play such inspired, frantic and fucked up hardcore. Cherish and behold.

Biggest album cover I could find :(

Can't find a single video either, your just gonna have to trust me on this one.

The Khayembii Communique

The Khayembii Communiqué was an underground hardcore / screamo band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Although a trio, they manage to be more eminent than other hardcore / screamo bands. An ordinary song consists of the singer-guitarist, Mark Shaw screaming his emotions out while strumming furiously at his guitar and singer-bass player Brian Wilcox, utualizing the concept of the song with poppy bass lines and calm singing. They performed with bands such as Saetia and You & I in local basements and house shows. This is a truly amazing band. If you haven't heard these guys do yourself a huge favor and download this discography immediately.

AMAZING SONG

i'm trying too hard to forget to just be me.
forgetting to forget the imagined audience.
who i wish would understand me,
yet never know me.
because i can't bear to show what i don't know.
this is why i discuss trivialities.
this is why i seem so strong.
because my shell won't be cracked if i make sure you never find out how to.
yet i want to open up.
i want to see who i am.
i want to see.
but it terrifies me to think that maybe you love me for what i say and not who i am.
My politics just aren't me;
just another wall between you and i.
The select few who've seen through the facade,
i pushed away in horror.
afraid of what they knew.
i withheld so much about myself to keep a fucked-up advantage
and now i see i never had anything to gain.
so now there's no more trying to "Just be me".
no more hiding behind a language. just expose myself for what i've been;
a fraud,
cashing in on rhetoric
that i learned to abuse,
what i used to push you away.
that i used to win even though.. every single time i lost.
every single time.

Neil Perry

Neil Perry was a screamo band from New Jersey formed in 1998 by former members of You and I and Red All Over. They issued a slew of releases, with forty tracks at their demise. These forty songs were released on a discography 2xCD entitled Lineage Situation by Level-Plane records. Members went on to, or were involved with, Hot Cross, The Now, Superstitions of the Sky, Joshua Fit for Battle, You and I, Welcome the Plague Year, Track Of Monarchs, A Life Once Lost, Interpol etc. Neil Perry is one of my all time favorite screamo bands. Basically one of the best screamo bands of all time. If your into that kind of stuff and for some reason haven't heard these guys get this album immediately.

Arsen AKA König Der Monster

Arsen aka König Der Monster comes from Germany (out of Bremen and Versmold respectivly) and plays a metallic style of hardcore/screamo with a slight somewhat crusty influence. Their sound has a heavy and very dark edge, which might make you think of bands like Uranus coupled with some of the classic US crust bands like His Hero Is Gone and Tragedy along with some of the German metallic hardcore stuff. Really glad I found these guys, better late then never.

3 Segundos Antes da Queda

3 Segundos Antes da Queda (3 Seconds Before the Fall) is a sadly defunct Brazilian screamo band from Brasília, DF. They released a 7-song demo in 2006 and broke up in 2008. That is basically all I can find out about this band, but they are so awesome. Give these guys a chance. Yeah, you can't understand their lyrics, but who cares right? It's the music and passion that really matters sometimes.

Saetia

Saetia was a screamo band from New York City that formed in early 1997. Their first show was at ABC No Rio to about thirty people. Two and a half years, 17 songs, numerous tours and four bass players later, Saetia played their final show at ABC No Rio to forty people. One of the greatest screamo bands of all time, these guys set the foundation for bands to come. If you've never heard these guys, crawl out of your shell and give them a chance. If you dig awesome 90's screamo I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Yaphet Kotto

Emotive Hardcore band from Santa Cruz, and then San Francisco, California. Active from 1996-2005. One of the greatest screamo bands of all time. I almost got the chance to see them a few years back, but they ended up not playing cause their singer got too drunk, one of the biggest bummers of my life. If you have never listened to this band, do yourself a favor and get everything they have ever created.

Index For Potential Suicide

Index for Potential Suicide was formed in the summer of 1998 in Charleston, SC by Christopher Ashley of the noise/hardcore band Murder Weapon and Brian Cooper, Robert Findlater and Frank Whiteside of Intentional Resentment. The four’s love for noise and experimental music was the foundation for the band’s early material. As an experimental band with drum machines, samplers, synths, trumpet, etc. Below is their discography. They have a very early 90's screamo sound to them, but keep it original with all the other noise they throw into the mix. Check these guys out.

Matsuri

Another band that I've had the privilege to play with, hang with and rage with. Some of the nicest guys I've ever met. Jeromes Dream

Jeromes Dream were an influential Connecticut screamo three piece, active from 1997 to 2001. The band had a unique vocal style - singer Jeff Smith opted not to use a microphone while performing live, instead screaming unamplified at the top of his lungs. The band was known for playing very short sets, usually no longer than 10 minutes. According to Smith, they thought 10 minutes was all they needed to get their point across. Amazing 90's era screamo band. Here's everything they did in 2 parts.

I wrote haikus about cannibalism in your year book

I Wrote Haikus About Cannibalism In Your Yearbook was a screamo band from Antioch, California, USA. The music is feelings and the words are thinking too much and out loud. Really awesome screamo band. Here's their discography.

Gospel

Their sound mixes the atmosphere of psychedelia, structural sensibilities and instrumentation of Genesis-esque progressive-rock, and primal aggression/desperation of hardcore/screamo. One of the best drummers of all time. Check this band out, like nothing else out there. The Moon Is A Dead World, get this album.
