Day of Suffering

Awesome vegan straight edge metalcore band from North Carolina that started in the mid nineties and officially broke up in early 98. There’s a lot of metal going on, vocals are harsh and carry across lyrics of animal liberation and holding on to your goals. Recommended if you’re into classic good metalcore. Just recently discovered these guys and I'm really into it. Give these guys a listen.

Creation is Crucifixion

"Creation is Crucifixion is a spectacle to generate discourse on what has become known as progress. The debates around technology exist within the walls of academia and by representing these ideas to a new audience we desire to renew the debate before the rhetoric maneuvers itself to the center of thought. We have no answers… only questions. Automata is conceptually rooted in our questioning of what in/describes life. Any correspondence regarding content is applauded. We are as you… tools of our tools." Half heavy, technical, metal. Half noise. Get everything now.

Meshuggah

Meshuggah, whose name is taken from the Hebrew and Yiddish word for “crazy”, are a five-piece band from Umeå, Sweden, founded in 1987. Their style is most easily described as / with some  influence. They use extended polymetric passages, complex drum patterns, angular, dissonant guitar riffs, and harsh vocals. Awesome lyrics, heavy as shit what more do you need. These are my two favorite albums. Thanks to Eric Liewald for getting me into these guys.

Witch

The group Witch was born from a marriage of apparently contradictory influences. J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. renown and his long time friend Dave Sweetapple were interested in forming a hard rock band. They found willing and able conspirators in Kyle Thomas and Asa Irons. On their eponymous debut album, this line-up mounts a mighty sonic tumult that harkens back to classic heavy metal sound of early 70’s outfits while still sounding modern in its assault (and without falling into the ubiquitous “Stoner Rock” pigeonhole). Really awesome band. Tune in, drop out. Put on some good headphones add weed and sit back and relax. Awesome cover art. Am I right ?

Ludicra

The San Francisco-based quintet Ludicra specialize in crustcore-influenced black metal with neoclassical tendencies. The group formed in 1999.  Ludicra play semi-regularly in the San Francisco area, where they have built up a strong reputation based on their intense live shows. Again I'm not a huge black metal fan, but these guys have a style of their own and do it very well. Female vocalists in black metal bands seem to do it for me. Get all there stuff, start out with their first album, Hollow Psalms if you wanna try them out first.

Amesoeurs

Organic, introspective black  from Avignon, France. The music combines the early/mid-90’s  sound with elements of  and female vocals. During the summer of 2004, Amesoeurs was formed with the purpose of creating music that reflects the dark side of the industrial era and modern civilization. Again I'm not the biggest fan of black metal, but these guys do it very different from the rest and do it well. They have their moments of black metal chaos, but for the most part they focus on beautifully written melodic, almost shoegaze sounding songs. Give these guys a listen.

The band is highly regarded as the primary pioneer of its genre, sometimes referred to as either  or . These are the soundtracks of the apocalypse, don't pass these up, especially Through Silver and Blood.

Dark Castle

Florida’s sludge two-piece. It is easy to see why this unsigned band turned so many heads, as there are several obvious elements that separate them from their peers. In an extreme rarity in metal genres, most of the guitar and vocal work is handled by a woman, Stevie Floyd. Also, the band has the distinction of having no bass player (nor bass in any of their recordings), which is strikingly ballsy in a genre that is so intimately associated with low-frequency amplifier worship. Amazing band, don't pass this up if your into sludge/doom and beautiful guitar work.

Shitty cover photo .. sorry

DOOOOOOM

Bethlehem

Bethlehem is a  band from Grevenbroich, Germany. Formed in 1991 by Jürgen Bartsch and Kläus Matton. Many of Bethlehem’s songs have sick and morbid lyrics about suicide, death and madness that may for the most part be personal to the band. They are very difficult to understand even for German speakers for their complexity and because they are full of metaphors.
